Preparations and Equipment

The area where the carpet is to be installed should be clean. There should be no dirt. If the new carpet has to be installed after removing the old one ensure that there is no dust after the old carpet has been removed. You can use a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dust, dirt and debris. If the carpet is to be installed on a concrete floor make sure that there is no moisture and that no moisture is expected on the floor that might damage your carpet. The installation area should be absolutely dry and as flat as possible.

If you choose to remove your old carpet, the tackless strips should remain. The old carpet should be folded and moved out of the room. The pad sometimes can be reused, if it is in good condition. This will save some expenditure of yours too.

The carpet padding is not less important than your carpet. It provides a proper base, support and of course proper cushion to your carpet. A good cushion will feel comfortable under foot. Good padding will help with warmth and helps reduce noise and last but not least gives a longevity to the life of your carpet.

Padding is available in different thickness, densities and weights to give your carpet the right feel and durability.

The thickness of the padding varies from carpet to carpet. Thin padding should be used in area with heavy traffic, for example, stairs.  It should be dense and heavy weight. If it is lightweight, it will damage the carpet. To select the most suitable padding for your carpet, you should talk to a reliable salesperson. They will be able to help you choose the most suitable padding for the type of carpeting you are purchasing.
