Going From Carpet To Tile?
Need your help to pick the best way to do this. Carpet is going to be installed in my bedroom soon and i have all the nail strips down except at the doorway. There is tile in the hall outside the room and where the tile ends there is a 7/16″ drop to the concrete floor of the room. The carpet is about an inch and a 1/4 thick. What will make a nice smooth transition between the two? The installer that came to take a look said to use T cap and the guy at Rona said to use this other edging piece. The reason I’m installing the strips myself is that most of the room already had the strips and it would have been 2 separate trips from the installer to put in the couple strips and the carpet, so that’s why I’m doing it myself $$$. Also because there is in floor heating with water pipes everything is being glued down instead of nails or screws.

What will work for me here?
Mil’s Say The Darndest Things!!?
I was talking to my MIL this morning (on the phone) and my son was playing with his ‘NEW’ (to him) toy that we bought at a garage sale a few weeks ago. It is the “Laugh and Learn Vacuum” and he absolutely loves it! (For $3.00, sure you can have it babe).
She asked what was singing so I said “Oh Lucas is playing with his vacuum again.” She then tells me that ‘I shouldn’t let him play with that so much, it is not his job to be cleaning the carpets and vacuuming?’
WHHHHHHHHHHAAAATTTTT????????? He is 15 months old. It’s a singing fricken vacuum. If he wants to actually vacuum the carpets every day of his life, do you actually think I would stop him??
I burst out laughing when she said this and asked her if it was 1920 and I had been sent back in time. She seemed a bit miffed but honestly, WTF?
What stupid, backward and hilarious comments have your MIL’s made lately! I must admit, I think it’s hilarious! However this definitely explains why her 3 boys have an aversion to cleaning! ![]()
BTW: this is the vacuum. It was $3.00, he wouldnt let it go, and it sings the cutest songs. “I’m going to clean the house today…do dah…do dah.. I’m going to vaccum while I play, all the do dah day!”http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp…

So Im Staging And Remodeling My Home……?
i have a 2 bedroom 1 bath duplex condo that i will be putting up for sale this year. so i have been doing major remodeling. took up the carpets and found i have beautiful hard wood floors so decided to refurnish them.now the issue i have is that i have a black metal narrow spiral staircase leading to the basement and although they are in great condition other than some black touch up painting. i feel they need something else to compliment the rest of my house.ive heard i can add to the steps like grip strips or even wood steps laid on top of the existing metal steps.has anyone done this? if so how does it look and how much does it cost? also does anyone have any other ideas that i can do to make them stand out more and make them look more welcoming and appealing? i am on a budget but any and all suggestions are welcome thanks .
When Inspecting Hardwood Floors What Should Be Paid Attention To?
I just had carpet replaced with hardwood (manufactured) floor, I will be doing the final inspection tomorrow before paying the final balance of the amount owed to the installer. Are there any special things to pay attention to that I might overlook upon an initial inspection that might require a correction?
Refund From Lender After Reo Property Sale?
after losing my home in foreclosure, the lender took possession of my home after the Public Auction failed to attract any bids for the $386K mortgage debt owed. After some routine refurbishing (new carpet, paint and new appliances) the home was placed on the market for $430K and was sold after a few weeks.
Assuming the bank made some profit, am I entitled to any portion of thier profit? If so,are they required to notify me of such monies owed to me or will I need to involve an atty in order to assert my rights accordingly?
There Is A Foreclosed House On My Street. How Can I Find Out More About This House And How Much It Is?
I live in a nice neighborhood in Austin, TX. A couple of years ago our neighbors 3 houses down the street moved and a large family moved in. I never saw that the house was “for sale” (no signs in the yard, etc) so I wondered at the time what happened. (If anyone knows how the property changed hands in this manner, I’d like to know). The house is a beautiful house, but the new neighbors turned out to be very undesirable and in a short time the exterior was looking shabby (unmowed lawn, no yard care at all, dying plants, vehicles parked everywhere, tires laying around, a broken window or two). I assume the house was foreclosed on a few months ago as the “owners” are now gone and have left behind a legacy of filth and disrepair. Out of curiosity, I peered in a few windows around the house and my bold husband tried the garage a couple days ago and it was open, so we took a quick walk through the place. I was utterly shocked at the level of ruin this place is in. The carpets are destroyed throughout the property, Appliances pulled away from the wall and rusted out, art niches with the sides smashed in, many broken windows, the ceiling above a 2 story stair has water damage and is peeling/open. The place is a nightmare, YET the structure and design of the house is still intact and holds much promise with restoration. It has a large yard with a few trees (still living, unbelievably)…it is full of all kinds of abandoned crap and furniture at the moment. We really like the house but its certainly in no shape to sell. I am wondering what will happen with this house? I guess it must have been up for sale at a trustee auction (sheriff sale) but I don’t know. There are no signs in the window as far as a HUD sale or anything like that. There is a lockbox on the door and thats it. How do we find out more about this property? I would imagine it would sell rather cheaply in the condition it is in. Is it possible for it to sit vacant for a long period of time? It has already been vacant this fall. What happens to homes in this state of disrepair? Do the banks attempt to clean/fix them before sale, or sell as is? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Tax On Sell Of Home With Less Than 2 Years Ownership Question.?
Preparing to take taxes to pro. Used turbotax to get preliminary idea of where we stand this year, but having trouble with home sale in the program.
If I owned home for 18 months, purchased at 215,000 (all figures are examples), sold at 247,000, 15,000 settlement expenses, 20,000 improvements (carpeting, etc), how much tax would I have to pay on the sale? Turbotax says about 23,000, but I essentially lost 3,000 when you consider the profit minus settlement expenses minus improvements. Appreciate your thoughts on this. Obviously I’m not much on taxes.
Do We Buy A Short Sale House That Has Recently Had Water Damage?
We are first time home buyers, and not hands on repairmen, and we have run into a dilemma. We put an offer on a house in August. It was accepted in November.
USDA approved it early January.
Two weeks before USDA approved us, a pipe burst and wasn’t found for two days.
A company was sent to air out and tear out anything damaged. About 13k for this.
The house we originally put an offer on is now gutted out and waiting to be repaired. They estimate 35k.
The source of the leak is not clarified, although they have narrowed it down to one of the upstairs bathrooms. All carpet pad has been removed, and carpet and laminate removed on stairs, kitchen, downstairs bathroom and living room. Walls removed from living room, stairway, garage and kitchen. All cabinet doors are warped (from kitchen)
The estimated time for repairs is two weeks. Their insurance is covering the damage and we were told we can pick the carpet and wall colors.
Is it worth our time to stick it out? If so is there anything we can do to make sure that they have checked for mold? Should we ask them to lower their price? Can we upgrade the carpet and flooring (out of pocket) when the house is still bank owned?
My husband doesn’t want to pay for another inspection or contractor to get a second opinion. He thinks if we do that then we might as well walk. I don’t understand his logic but am getting no where.
This was a great house, in a great area and it took forever to get to where we are so we hesitate to start over. However, if this is just going to turn into a money pit we want out.
What are our rights as a buyer (earnest money down, everything approved) to insure things are done right, nothing is over looked or skipped?
Whats The Easiest Way To Get 40 Year Old Glued Carpet Pad Off Concrete?
Doing a bunch of work in a house today, and the rest of this week. One of the jobs, is to pull the old carpet and pad out of this enormous basement. In one room, the installers glued the carpet to the pad, then the pad to the concrete, it took hours to just pull the carpet off the pad. In another room the size of my entire apartment, they put the glue on with a notched trowel under the pad….as if the house was going to move enough for the carpet to move! I really don’t understand the reasoning behind using so much glue, anyways, today we were using brute strength and an ice pick to get up the carpet and pad. Is there any easier way? Some type of chemical? The one room is seriously 35′x50′, and will take forever with an ice pick. Any ideas? Either labor or some type of chemical, would much rather find some type of chemical to get it done without killing myself or the help. Thanks.
